The Truth About Looe.

There are a whole lot of misconceptions about Looe and I feel as if it is my mission in life to set the record straight once and for all. You see, since this holiday spot just so happens to be my most favouritist place on the entire planet – it goes without saying that I cannot bear to hear anything derogatory said about it! In fact, in the past i have almost come to blows with a couple of people who have put Looe down. However, that is another story altogether that I may write about in another one of my posts…

Holiday Dilemma.

I’ve been working here in Looe for quite a while now and I often think about taking some time off. But (if I did) where would I actually go? After all, I’m not a big fan of planes so it would have to be somewhere in this country. Maybe a week in Skegness would be nice; I’ve heard a lot about it over the years…

The only thing is that I don’t know if I could stomach staying in a hotel. If I did, then it would probably turn into a sort of ‘busman’s holiday’, wouldn’t it?

Hmmm. A tent in Skeggy it is then!

All in a day’s work

If there is one thing I can tell you about Looe, its that it is the friendliest and most enjoyable place I have ever had the pleasure of calling home. I am lucky enough to have a great job, working for a company which treats me well, where I get to meet with a variety of different people throughout the year. For anyone looking around the country looking for a place to find a job or a place to do some seasonal work, Looe is a great place to investigate.

Stealing from the hotel- a bad idea

It is surprising how many guests continue to steal stuff from hotels simply because they feel that they can get away with it. The truth is that stealing stuff from hotels is never a smart move. There was a time when you could provide false information to the desk and get away with the stuff that you have taken. On the other hand, it will be virtually impossible for you to hide your identity if you have paid for the accommodation using your credit card.

Hotel And Life – It Is All About Temporary Possession

Hotel And Life – It Is All About Temporary Possession

Working in a hotel helps me understand how temporary life is. We all make a big deal about our lives and pretend as if long term planning is very important. However, what we fail to understand is that long term planning is not even the time span of a second when you view it from the real perspective.

The hotel which I work in is situated close to numerous reputed art clubs. Hence, we often have group bookings from individuals and Associations interested in art. In such a scenario, the hotel is full of people for a short period of time before becoming empty again. The funny thing is that each and every person who occupies a room behaves as if it belongs to him or her. People are very particular about the facilities and amenities in the room. They feel that they deserve the best because they paid for it.

What they fail to understand is that the possession of the room is completely transitory. What belongs to them today belonged to somebody else in the past. When they move out, somebody else will walk in and occupy the room all over again.

This may sound a bit too philosophical for some but it certainly does help me manage the boredom and the fact that there is nothing stable or permanent in my job. Keep this in mind and you will probably find yourself behaving in a sympathetic manner to the hotel staff. After all, you are not the only guest they have to handle. You also find it easier to manage your life if you adopt such an approach.

The Beautiful Barclay House

Looe is a truly remarkable place. A recent story was covered by the BBC that shows just how much of a community spirit exists in this historic Cornish town. A lifeboat dedicated to Ollie Naismith from Looe has already saved over 10 lives since it entered service in 2010. It goes to show that even in the most trying and difficult circumstances, good can emerge. This kind of spirit can be found throughout Looe which is why it is such a good place to visit.

Saved by the Insurance

Saved by the Insurance

It could have been an absolute disaster for a couple of friends of mine this year when their caravan burnt down in an accidental electrical fire.

Apparently a couple of old wires got crossed and the resulting spark hit a bit of flammable material, and before either of them knew what was happening the whole caravan went up in flames.

Luckily they both escaped unhurt, and managed to grab their most precious possessions – family photographs etc – before jumping out of the van. Neighbours on the caravan park put them up for the night, and although of course it was a horrific and a terrifying experience, it was not an absolute disaster because they had the foresight to have caravan insurance.

Their caravan was sited just outside of the charming Cornish village of Looe, and their insurance paid for them to stay in a hotel in Looe for the rest of their holiday, as well as covering the costs of replacing their static caravan. So all was not lost, and my friends were pretty accepting of their fate as they took their pick of the great choice of hotels in the town.

They had spent many holidays in their caravan, so they know this lovely Cornish area quite well. Of course, normally they would have to drive or walk in from the caravan park, so this horrible accident actually allowed them to enjoy the experience of holidaying in the centre of town.

They chose a hotel on the harbour front, just for the unusual setting. In the mornings they could watch the fishermen setting off for their working day, and during the afternoons they could enjoy seeing the tourists buzzing around the harbour. And, of course, they were right on hand for the great restaurants of this wonderful village.

Having caravan insurance meant that they were rescued from a disaster to a real holiday

A rare trip abroad

A rare trip abroad

As much as I can find every reason for us to stay in this country and not travel abroad, not only because it can be of benefit to my business but because I truly believe that there is so much to discover just on our doorsteps. This summer however I have taken a trip abroad! Most of my friends are shocked but I thought it was time for me to experience something a little bit more exciting this year. What I decided to opt for was kenya safari holidays in which I was able to do a discovery channel style visit to this wonderful part of the world. As much as I can wax lyrical about Looe and everything it has to offer as a result, which I won’t be going back on by the way, but this trip was out of this world. For around three to four hundred dollars per person you can get a fully organised safari trip. We visited the park of Amboseli, which our guide told us was relatively small in comparison to some of the others but is situated North West of Mount Kilimanjaro. First of all seeing this famous mountain with my own eyes was really quite breathtaking, if you think you’ve seen mountains you haven’t seen anything until you’ve seen this. In this park alone there are apparently over fifty-three different species. I did get to see elephants, which was dream come true. In addition to this I also saw cheetahs and giraffes in their natural habitat, something we’ll never be able to experience in the UK.
