Footwear for all Weather

One thing about Looe that people often forget are the amazing walks available throughout the town, along the river and out onto the south west coastal path. Looe remains one of the most picturesque and unspoilt beauty spots in the UK. If you do plan on going though, you will need several pairs of comfortable shoes for both hiking and strolling.

As the town is separated by the river, Looe will keep even the most hardened and adventurous holidaymaker busy. It’s worth packing shoes that are suitable for a variety of weather conditions that can affect walks and trails. There is a great selection of footwear from Birkenstock that is both highly supportive and comfortable. Travellers would be well advised to take a pair of sandals or shoes from the Birkenstock range as they adapt themselves to the terrain. You can get these online from Zalando. As one of the best suppliers around, you can usually find what you’re looking for and in Looe, this is precisely what any visitor needs.

So what kind of hikes and trails are there to explore in and around the town? To begin it is best to ramble about the streets of both West and East Looe. East Looe includes the harbour and the main shopping centre whereas West Looe is quieter but has several shops and hotels that are perfect for basing yourself at. Both sides of the town are joined by a seven arched bridge that was built in 1853. It replaced a much older bridge that was built in the 15th century and you can still find many buildings from that period in and around Looe.

Once you’ve finished exploring the town, the areas outside and along the coast await. Ambitious hikers can find a number of trails that take you up out above the river giving a perfect view of both West and East Looe. After that you can climb down to the coastal path which begins near the harbour. If you’re feeling very energetic then Looe Island is also worth exploring. Bought by Babs and Evelyn Atkins in 1965, the island offers magnificent views of the coast and Looe. Its highest point is 150 feet above sea level and it covers an area of 22.5 acres – plenty to hike across in a day!

If you’ve never been to Looe then now is the best time of year to explore this ancient town. Coming from a city, it will remind you how quiet and relaxing life can be if we only take a moment to stop and breathe.
