The Truth About Looe.
There are a whole lot of misconceptions about Looe and I feel as if it is my mission in life to set the record straight once and for all. You see, since this holiday spot just so happens to be my most favouritist place on the entire planet – it goes without saying that I cannot bear to hear anything derogatory said about it! In fact, in the past i have almost come to blows with a couple of people who have put Looe down. However, that is another story altogether that I may write about in another one of my posts…
Here are a few things that everyone should know about Looe, especially if you are looking for somewhere nice to go on your hols this year. Looe is overlooked by a great many British tourists and this is a great shame. So many people seem to automatically book foreign holidays in places like hotel.info- Munich, Barcelona, Florida, Lanzarote, Malta… These may all be super-popular destinations, yet a lot of us forget just how many wonderful places there are to visit that are far closer to home. And Looe is a perfect example of this! Believe me, I have spent enough of my time in this part of the world to know exactly what I am talking about and I can absolutely guarantee that anyone who visits this Cornish town will have a fantastic time. Not only that, but you won’t have the hassle of booking a flight and your time away will be a whole lot cheaper too!!!

Its Correct Spelling and Reams of Unfunny Jokes…
Okay, let’s start with the basics here; the name of this gorgeous location is spelt ‘Looe' and NOT ‘Loo’. And this does kind of make sense when you stop to think about it… after all, this is an idyllic holiday destination and not a public lavatory.
Consequently, because it is pronounced as ‘Loo' there have always been a lot of stupid jokes and comments about this place (e.g. ‘Have you been to the Looe’, ‘I’m going to buy a local Looe paper' or ‘Don’t forget to pull the chain before you leave’). However, anyone with any kind of appreciation for natural beauty will know that comparing Looe to a toilet is just plain wrong!
The proper Cornish spelling for Looe is ‘Logh' although I don’t want to even begin trying to explain why or I will never get time to write any of the other sections in this blog post…

A Few Basic Facts About Looe…
Not only is Looe a great place to have a holiday, it also happens to be one of the most picturesque harbour towns in the whole of Cornwall. With a population of only five and a half thousand people (thereabouts) it is quaint, ‘olde worlde' and very, very scenic.
Looe has a wonderful sandy beach and there are lots of lovely walking trails to explore. It is also only twenty miles away from Plymouth and seven miles from Liskeard. Needless to say, there are always plenty of things to see and do in this neck of the woods!
Something That You May Not Know About Looe…
Considering how small a place it is, Looe has a very impressive celebration for each New Year. As you would expect, most visitors to Looe will arrive in the summer months and the town is pretty much deserted in the winter; apart from fishermen and other local folk. However, this changes in a very big way when it is New Year’s Eve…
Hundreds of people pour into Looe every year on December the 31st and many of these will also be wearing fancy dress. The festivities will begin in the town itself before heading off to the seafront for a celebratory fireworks display. No-one seems to remember how this all came about in the first place or how long it has been going on. Although one thing is for certain – there are certainly no signs of this changing any time soon!

The Luxurious Places to Stay…
As I mentioned earlier in this post, it really isn’t necessary to go abroad to have a great time away. And when it comes to holiday accommodation, Looe has a wonderful choice!
There are plenty of superb hotels here in Looe and (considering the fact that I work in one) I think I am more than qualified to make this bold statement! Looe also has an excellent selection of bed and breakfast establishments and there are several really nice caravan and camp sites in the area. So, as you can no doubt appreciate, this is a holiday resort to suit absolutely anyone!
Besides, why would you want to go on holiday anywhere else when you have a location as scenic as this right on your own doorstep???
