Flying wins every time

Flying wins every time

We had our first family holiday in Cornwall when I was about six years old. It was actually to Newquay, not Looe, though we did visit the latter on a day trip and fell in love with the the place completely. After that, it was destination Looe every year, and poor Newquay was forgotten!
In those early days, it was a real expedition to get down to Cornwall from the north-east of England where we lived. The car was packed with all our camping gear (for the first few years, anyway, until we started splashing out on B&Bs and hotels), suitcases full of clothes and enough books, games and snacks to try and keep me and my older brother amused on the long and boring 11-hour drive. Unsurprisingly, my Mum always refused to do the drive in one go, saying she’d end up either murdering us or killing herself, so we would always stay in a hotel somewhere a little south of Birmingham, get a good night’s sleep, then up in the morning to clamber back in the car that had begun to feel more like a prison cell to two young kids eager to start their holidays!
These days, travelling to the south-west is completely different and so much easier. You can get low cost flights to Exeter from Newcastle Airport, which is only a few miles away from our home. Once the quick flight is over, we pick up our hire car and then it’s less than an hour’s drive to our Looe holiday. SO much better than that long, long drive dwn the country.

Stay Cationing in Looe

Stay Cationing in Looe

It is all the rage this year, staying at home for your holiday. What counts as a ’stay-cation’. It is complicated, for some it means not flying abroad and having a holiday in the UK. For others on a tighter budget a staycation means staying in their own home and enjoying the tourist and holiday making features of the place that they already live. If you have already paid your Caravan insurance and are looking for a great middle ground, think about Looe as an alternative. There are a number of camping and caravan sites in Looe in easy reach of both the centre of town and the beautiful Cornish coast. The trick to a stay cation is to do things that don’t cost any money at all. If you are in camping or in a caravan, it is a great opportunity to explore the wonders of out door gourmet cookery. Looe is a fishing village, and there is no better way to get to the heart of it then by visiting the local fish market and auction, buying some of the catch that is just from the sea and taking it home to your camp site to cook over an outdoor fire. It is a great way to explore a town and get to know the locals hunting for authentic Cornish recipes and getting local ingredients. Depending on the season, you can also explore the joys of foraging for wild food. With the help of a guide, there is no greater way to explore nature on the cheap.

Don’t Leave Home Without It!

Don’t Leave Home Without It!

It’s time to go on holiday and at the top of your list should be a sense of fun and excitement. But amidst all that find a little time to do some pre-holiday planning so that you can enjoy it to the max. Here’s a few things that are on my holiday checklist.
Passport and papers Depending on where you are going there may be some legal or other official paperwork that you need to take with you. Apart from the obvious passport, visas and tickets, you may also need to write down booking numbers of hotels as proof of payment.
Clothes If you’re anything like me you’ll find packing clothes a real chore. But take the time to have a think about what the weather conditions might be like where you are going. Can you get away with just a bathing suit and a couple of t-shirts? Even if you are going somewhere tropical it may be prone to sudden downpours so a light rain jacket may be a good idea. If you are going somewhere more exotic than your home, you many even want to leave a little space in your bag so that you can buy clothes at your destination. Buying “local”clothing can be part of the fun of being away. On a recent trip to Malaysia I discovered the wonderful world of fishermans pants!
Money There are many things that you can forget but don’t forget your travel money. These days you have all sorts of options including travellers cheques, pre pay currency cards, credit and debit cards, and good old fashioned notes and coins. Decide which one is best for you and find out if it’s easy to access money at your destination. If you are going somewhere remote remember to take enough travel money with you or you may have a very hungry holiday.

Last but not least, remember to take a sense of fun and adventure with you, and leave your everyday stresses at home.

Happy Holidays!

Australia

Australia

Ive heard stories that seem unreal on paper about Australia, but only after I had visited it recently did I realize that their stories are true. Although people are led to believe on TV, on Magazines, on radio or by word of mouth that America and Europe is the capital of the world. But I counter that argument. I’ve gone to both those places and all I see is trouble around every corner, tall buildings with taller problems, poverty, hate and more problems. However in countries like Australia, there is a more grounded approach to what a person must achieve success in life.
Taking Canberra as an example, the city could be considered as one of the most happiest cities in the world. They are well engaged in sports, doctors instead of handing out pills for weight reducing or suggesting liposuction hand out sport activities to their patients.
The government takes care of it people providing an apt environment of enjoyment as well as a peaceful atmosphere that promotes working conditions and studying conditions to both the parents as well as the students. The cost of land and essential products are less they understand that things like these are dire essentials of existence, premiums on things like land and water and food are taboo for them taking away the right for someone to live is considered bad. Pushing for a stability between living life as well as pursuing modernization is well balanced in this country. Besides having the worlds best worldwide sim card , the country pursues for happiness, this should be considered as template country.

The Blue Man Of Looe

The Blue Man Of Looe

Looe is one of those places that you can just go on exploring. It’s not just the array of local sights and beautiful coast walks that attract people to Looe. The history and in particular ghost sightings have fascinated the local inhabitants and travellers alike.

There is a story originally recounted by local author Elizabeth Shapcott in 1928. It tells of a dressmaker who came to Looe in the 1800s and was hired to work for a couple for a few days and nights. The dressmaker was an old woman and decided that the best place to work during the day was on top of a nearby hill above the town. Whilst she was working she began to get a strange feeling that she was being watched. At one point she was certain that there was someone standing right behind her, but when she turned no one was there.

Later that night as she was in bed the old lady woke up with a start even though there was no sound coming from her room or the house. She looked around the room until she saw in the corner a faint blue light getting brighter and brighter. Eventually it merged into the shape of a tall aristocratic looking man with grey hair. He slowly crossed the room pass her bed and disappeared through the wall beside the old lady.

You can imagine the poor old lady’s reaction to this and needless to say she didn’t stick around the next day to find out exactly what had happened.

So come on down to Looe! We’re not just a scenic day out. We too also have a history and spooky tales to frighten even the bravest man. If you live in the city you can get cheap London Flights down to the south west and from there it’s just a quick drive to Looe and the possibility of your own encounter with our chilling history…

Looe – an idyllic holiday destination in the southwest

Looe is one of the most scenic ports in the southwest of England, situated in southeast Cornwall and close to the bordering county of Devon. It is a popular holiday destination in the summer time but in the winter some people also visit the area to enjoy its milder weather. The town can be easily reached by public transport at nearby Plymouth although parking spaces can become scarce during the peak tourist season in August. There are numerous activities to try in the local area, including horse riding with horse insurance, rock climbing, hiking and boating. One of the most impressive hotels in town is the Fieldhead Hotel, which is advertised on websites. It boasts a high 80 percent rating by the AA and is ranked in the top ten percent in Cornwall in terms of hotel services and comfort. It is an ideal base from which to explore Cornwall’s many notable attractions, including the Eden Project, National Trust properties and the stunning coastal walks in the area. It also boasts a heated swimming pool and excellent views of Looe Bay. Meanwhile, the Trelaske Hotel benefits from a 3 Star rating by the AA and has also won the association’s Rosette award. The Rosettes commend British establishments for the quality of their cuisine and are only awarded to the country’s highest ranking eateries. It is also rated as the number one hotel in Looe from a collection of reviews submitted on the Trip Advisor website. Some of its bedrooms even boast Jacuzzis and the building is nestled in four acres of fantastic gardens in a spectacular rural location.

The Cosmopolitan Martini: My Favourite

Recently while donning my running clothes I thought of my favourite drink mix..I came up with the cosmopolitan martini. A cosmopolitan martini is a great combo of tart and sweet flavors. It’s a very popular cocktail among people and you will find someone ordering a cosmopolitan martini in a bar any night. Now if you are looking for an easy recipe for making this cosmopolitan martini, you are at the right place. Here is my take..

Making a great cocktail requires some equipment related with cocktail making. Take your shakers in your hand to make a great cosmopolitan martini.

To make a cosmopolitan martini, you will need Vodka 1 ½ oz. Triple sec orange liqueur or Cointreau ½ ounce, Cranberry juice ½ ounce, ½ lime juice. Grab your cocktail shaker and fill it with ice. Now let it sit for 2-4 min for chilling the shaker. Now take a martini glass and fill it with ice to let it chill too. Now pour all the ingredients, triple sec, vodka, lime juice and cranberry juice in your cocktail shaker and shake it properly. Now empty your martini glass and shaker. Now strain cocktail into a glass and garnish it with lime rind curl or lime wedge or whatever you like and it’s ready to serve.

If you want to serve it nicely, you should pay attention to the glass and equipment you are using to make cocktails. Serving this cosmopolitan in martini glasses makes it look well. If you make cocktails regularly in your home, you can keep some classic set of glasses like martini, double-old fashioned, margarita etc. And keeping equipment like shaker or a corkscrew can help you to make a professional cosmopolitan martini in a very short time.

I find that replacing quantity of alcohol with a really high quality of alcohol really helps in increasing enjoyment as well as responsibility levels.

Looe – The Ideal Fishing Holiday Destination

There’s a lot that can be said about Looe especially considering it is only a small town in Cornwall. However, it has a long history that dates back to the days of Planted boroughs. West Looe and East Looe were connected by a single estuary bridge and while this has been renovated and offers decent transport between the two halves of this town, Looe still enjoys showing off its rich heritage and proud history, and you can see it wherever you go in this largely unspoilt area.
East Looe remains a busy fishing harbour to this day and if you’re looking for somewhere to set sail from in order to enjoy a fishing trip then this is the ideal location for you. There is also a collection of shops and other amenities here, with more shops on the Eastern half of the town.
There is some transport that will get you around town and further afield with buses, trains, and taxis running fairly regularly, however your stay will be considerably easier if you have your own transport.
If you’re looking for a break from the rat race that the majority of us live in everyday then Looe is the ideal place to go. You won’t have to deal with any customers and you certainly won’t have to look at a single piece of time management software or recruitment software during your stay in this idyllic part of Cornwall, which is arguably one of the most beautiful counties in the UK.
East Looe is the large of the two halves of the town and also has a beautiful sandy beach which makes it the perfect destination for families as well as individuals and couples. Whatever you want from your holiday, as long as you’re not looking for busy city life, you can find it in Looe.
